Dear visitor,

As a paying guest at Mersley Farm, we hope you will enjoy the fishing facilities that we have available to you.

There are three ponds under the control of “The Newchurch & District Piscatorial Society”, & approximately 1 mile of the “The River Yar”.

These waters are open to Mersley Farm guests at a rate of £.5.00 per day all-inclusive. Day tickets can be purchased from Jenny Boswell at the farm.

The stretch of river open to you can be fished from June 16 th – March 15 th & starts at the weir pool below Newchurch road bridge, continuing downstream as far as the large Poplar trees, it finishes at the point where the river rejoins the disused railway. Fishing is from both banks & you should expect to catch the following species:-

Dace to 9ozs, Roach to 1lb, Gudgeon to 3ozs, Perch to 1lb & Eels to 2lbs with the occasional Carp showing to 7lbs.

St James reservoir is the largest of our fisheries at 4 acres. This water is stocked with lots of small double figure Carp some with one known Common captured @ 20lbs, 8ozs plus a Mirror estimated to be 30lbs, seen quite often during the summer months but as yet un-captured. There are also Trench to 5lbs 8ozs, Rudd to 14ozs, & Perch to 3lb +, Bream to 2lb 8ozs & a handful of Pike up to 14lbs.

Langbridge Withy Bed comes next & is closest to the farm. This is primarily a small Carp fishery where Carp from 1lb to 10lbs are more densely stocked than the other two ponds. Other species on offer here include Roach & Rudd to 1lb. Perch at 3lb+, Pike to 10lbs & Trench to 4lbs. Dace, Gudgeon, Chub & Eels are also present in this water.

Lastly, we have Parsonage. Here you will find good Perch fishing with spinners, worms & dead/live baits. We have netted Perch in excess of 4lbs here. There is a good head of small Roach & Rudd, plus Gudgeon & Dace here, with a few Carp to 10lbs & big predatory Eels in excess of 3lbs. You may also catch Bream to 6lb & Tench to 5lbs at this venue

There are no bait or tackle restrictions on these waters: all that the Society asks of you is that you leave the venues litter free, return all fish to the water & respect the peace & quiet of our locations.
